Gastric bypass has been performed since the mid 1960's. It is very effective in weight loss, and the reduction
or elimination of other medical co-morbidities such as hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and diabetes. It involves
creating a small pouch from the upper part of your stomach, which is the restrictive aspect of the procedure.
We also then bypass anywhere from 70cm to 100cm of small bowel, thereby not allowing full absorption of food.
